Permanent Magnet - How To Make A Permanent Magnet

Last update by Jian Guo

You can also make a permanent magnet by mixing iron ore, salt, water and vinegar.

The magnetic field created by a permanent magnet is so strong that it can attract metal objects even when the magnet is removed.

The mixture will turn into a liquid when it comes in contact with air. After this process, the liquid turns into a solid again.

This method is very simple and easy to use. All you need to do is mix the ingredients together and wait until the mixture becomes a liquid. Then, pour the liquid into a container and let it dry.

Mixing Ingredients

Once the mixture has dried, you will see a white powdery substance. If you take a piece of paper and rub the powder between your fingers, you will notice that it sticks to the paper. This means that the powder contains magnetic particles.

Making The Magnet

The next thing you need to do is to mix the powder with some glue. Mix them well so that there are no lumps. Then, place the mixture into a mold and let it dry. After that, you can remove the magnet from the mold.

Testing The Magnet

Once the magnet has been made, you should test its magnetic properties. This will help you determine whether the magnet is strong enough to use as a compass. If not, then you can add more iron oxide to the mixture.

Using The Magnet

In order to make a permanent magnet, you need to mix iron ore with salt, water and vinegar in a container. Afterward, you must heat the mixture until it reaches a temperature of 450 degrees Celsius (842 Fahrenheit). Then, you must let the mixture cool down before removing it from the container.
